FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

The fascia is the vertical board that caps the rafter ends and carries the guttering, while the soffit is the horizontal panel beneath the roof overhang that allows ventilation into the attic space. Together they seal the roofline and keep weather and pests out.

Current price guides put full fascia-and-soffit replacement at £150 per linear metre, with uPVC guttering averaging £45 per metre; for a small semi-detached house that works out to around £2,750–£3,400 including labour and scaffolding.

Not always. If the gutters are modern and in good condition they can sometimes stay in place,  but many contractors recommend taking them down temporarily to inspect the fascia fully and avoid accidental damage during installation.

Peeling paint, visible cracks or rot, sagging gutters, water stains on brickwork, pest activity and reduced loft ventilation all signal that the roofline timber or uPVC is past its best and should be repaired or replaced.

While confident DIYers can tackle short runs, full replacement involves working at height, handling long lengths of material and ensuring watertight junctions, mistakes are costly.  Most guides advise using an accredited roofline specialist for safety and long-term performance.
